Hi. When I open an adobe document, all I see with Jaws is a blank screen. Apparently the document does open. Sighted people can see it fine. I just don't see anything with Jaws. Thanks for any help.
I've had this problem from time to time as well, that is if Adobe Reader doesn't crash itself or JFW. But a couple things I usually do if it shows up as a blank screen are 1. Wait a couple minutes. Sometimes it takes a couple minutes for Adobe Reader and your screen reader to register and catch up with each other. 2. Try pressing jaws key + escape. This refreshes your screen along with what your screen reader should say on it. Again you might want to give it a few seconds as it might not happen instantly. Hope this helps, and I hope there might be some other things we can try.
I agree with Ryan's suggestions. Also, if it's not working at all, which can be the case with some PDF files, you can try either uploading the document to robobraille.org and converting it, or the convenience OCR feature found in JAWS. I think the command for this is insert space and then the letter r?
pdf files are a tough one for screen readers. Be patient and let it load.
In my experience, plenty of pdfs are not readable by JAWS. If you have Kurzweil or Open Book try sending it to the Kurzweil or Open Book virtual printer.
Have never tried the JAWS OCR -will have to try to remember that.
I've been told that if pdfs are done correctly, they will be okay with JAWS. Does anyone know what the trick is?
Adobe is a problem. I sometimes right click, then the dialogue opens to say how I want to read the document.
Sense the upgrade this has been an issue, but it does work.
Good evening, here are a few thoughts on the issue, please email me or message me on the site if you are still working on this issue: is protected view mode turned off in adobe reader, is your adobe reader the latest version, is the reading dialog box on the screen requiring you to use the jaws cursor to click the start reading option with a left mouse click and jaws is not focusing on it properly,
JAWS OCR command is insert spacebar then letter o then press w or s personally I haven't noticed much difference between useing w or s.
If you have JAWS 16 now, I have found the OCR document to work well.
Insert space o, d.
It will launch the results of the OCR in a separate window.
Here's what I read on their web page about this:
You know, I've had Jaws 16 and I've not had to use the reading function yet.
I really must give it a try. The last document I read was the latest iPhone manual, and I had to locate the text the old fashion way. It doesn't start on page one, but like page 10.
I think I'll try to read it.
I have some credit companies I read statements, but these read easy even with 15.
My bank also does statements online, so I'm pretty much down to no paper mail at all.
